So I was at the L.A. County Fair and I decided to try some chocolate-covered bacon. It's one of those things you do at the fair in between pig races and petting zoos. I discovered that it feels weird to stand at the counter and order chocolate-covered bacon, even when it's on the menu. But order I did and I got six pieces of bacon served cold in a little Chinese takeout box.
It was a good snack but not as great as it sounds. It's basically salty chocolate with a chewy middle and hints of bacon flavor peeking out from under the chocolate. It makes you realize that a lot of the pleasure of eating bacon comes from its crunchiness. If you had some hot fresh bacon and dipped it in a chocolate fondue, that would be a better way to appreciate the bacon and chocolate more equally. But It's hard to do that at a fair.
In hindsight, I kind of wish I'd tried a donut-and-fried-chicken sandwich instead.
